The Journey So Far

When I was thirteen, my mom handed me her 1JJ Swiss Tarot deck and guidebook. I didn't fully get what I was holding, but something in me knew it was already part of who I was. Then life did what life does, and that path went dormant for a while.

After being in retail management for most of my 20's, I spent a decade as a sound engineer in the music and message on hold industries, and then seven years in television, starting backstage on live sets and working my way up to associate producer. Live TV is a completely different animal than scripted or episodic work. The entertainment industries were/are heavily male-dominated, neither was particularly forgiving, and I held my own in both.

Along the way, I traveled extensively and fell in love across borders and cultures, accumulating the kind of experience no classroom could replicate. I have rarely dated within my own country or nationality; my life and my perspective have always been inherently global. Hello Sun in Sagittarius!

Following my amicable divorce, I went through a long dark night of the soul, one that often found me seeking solace at the bottom of many, many bottles of beer and wine. People always laud the phoenix after it has risen, but nobody talks about the part where your tailfeathers are on fire and you ultimately die after getting consumed by the flames. I'm fond of saying: "I messed up so you don't have to."

The person who came out on the other side of the ash was entirely different. I was my core self but stronger, wiser, and far more discerning of who deserved my precious time, love, and energy. People I thought were true friends, and parts of my life I once thought were key, fell away like brittle branches. I didn't fight it. I didn't want to. I was finally the person I was meant to be, and she had been waiting, maybe since I was thirteen, for me to find her again. Today, I keep learning, seeking new knowledge, connections, and adventures with the absolute certainty that the past is exactly where it needs to be.
